Biography

Katie Miller was born in New Hampshire in 1984, and grew up in Boca Raton, Florida and suburban Sacramento, California. At five, she decided to become an artist and then taught herself to draw. During adolescence, Miller created her first independent body of work and also fell in love with art history. Miller began showing her work as a teenager in Sacramento.

After high school, Miller moved to Baltimore to attend Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In the summer of 2006, she studied in Umbria, Italy, at the International School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. At MICA, Miller majored in painting and minored in art history. She graduated magna cum laude in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Miller’s work has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and is represented in the permanent collection of Access Living, a Chicago nonprofit. She is a 2008 winner of the prestigious Wynn Newhouse Awards and was recently nominated for the Dedalus Foundation Fellowship.

Miller is currently a second-year MFA student at the Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA and expects to graduate in the Spring of 2011. She resides in Baltimore City.
